CELEBRATING THE BEST TALENT IN THE MARKET

3 APRIL 2020, LONDON

ABOUT THE AWARDS

3 April 2020

12:30 - 16:00 (followed by networking drinks)

Banking Hall, 14 Cornhill, London, EC3V 3ND

Unlike traditional awards ceremonies where a panel of judges pick who they believe to be the winner of a category, the winners are derived from aggregated survey data collected by The Insurance Insider's Insights Team.

The survey only allows for underwriters and brokers active in the US property cat reinsurance sector to take part. Survey participation levels are set as to achieve statistically significant results.

When the survey closes, we will produce shortlists for each individual award, where we will pick the top five highest-ranked individuals from each company in their respective field. For the company awards, we will pick the top five firms that received the highest score for that category.

The winner of each category will simply be the individual or company with the highest score made up from their supporters' vote.

Our Insights team is still accepting survey submissions, so if you are an underwriter or broker in this market, click the button below to take part and have a say in who should be deemed as the best talent on 3 April 2020.

TAKE THE SURVEY

CATEGORIES

Rising Star Broker of the Year

Who is the best rising star broker in the US property cat market? This category is for those brokers who have up to three years’ broking experience in the US property cat reinsurance sector.

Rising Star Underwriter of the Year

Who can claim to be the next up-and-coming underwriting across the US property cat sector? The winner of the award will be an underwriter with up to three years of underwriting experience.

Catastrophe Model / Modelling Agency of the Year

Catastrophe modelling and risk management is essential to insurance companies and especially those in the US property cat reinsurance sector. They help firms prepare for the financial impacts of catastrophes before they occur by assessing the likelihood and severity of losses.

Which catastrophe model provides reinsurers and brokers with the best service to better understand and manage risk?

Weather Tool of the Year

When a natural catastrophe hits, underwriters and brokers rely on sophisticated weather tools to provide them with expert analysis on the event. The winner here will be a weather tool that provides the best service to help insurance companies and customers prepare for the impact during and after catastrophe events.

US Property Cat Claims Team of the Year (new for 2020)

Credit must be given to the service that claims teams across the sector provide during times of need.

The winner of this award will demonstrate speed of claims payment through efficient internal processes and will go above and beyond the norm for their clients.

Most Skilled Broker of the Year

Our survey requires underwriters to rate their nominations for best broker on eight measureable attributes: risk knowledge, honesty and integrity, communication, analytical skills, diligence, ownership for when things go wrong, consistency and creativity.

This award winner will be recognised for their superb combination of these key skills.

Most Skilled Underwriter of the Year

What makes a great and skilful underwriter? Brokers who take the survey are asked to rate their nominations for best underwriter on six key skills: knowledge and experience, negotiation skills, fast response, communication, creativity and consistency in the treatment of risks and relationships.

The winner of this category will have the perfect blend of these key underwriter attributes.

US Property Cat Brokerage of the Year

Individual scores are aggregated at a company level to provide insights into the firms and teams that are winning today in the US property cat market. Total company scores are then averaged according to how many team members featured on the overall ranking - the winner of this award will have the highest average score.

US Property Cat Underwriting Firm of the Year

Similarly, individual scores are aggregated at a company level to provide insights into the firms and teams that are winning today in the US property cat market. Total company scores are then averaged according to how many team members featured on the overall ranking - the winner of this award will have the highest average score.

US Property Cat Broker of the Year

As the awards reach their climax, the unveiling of the best US property cat reinsurance broker of 2019 will be the ultimate broking accolade. It is the pinnacle of achievement for any intermediary operating in this market.

US Property Cat Underwriter of the Year

The best US property cat underwriter in the global space will be identified in a reliable and irrefutable fashion by our unparalleled Rankings survey process.

Outstanding Contributor of the Year

In contrast to the other awards, this award will be chosen by a panel of senior Insurance Insider editorial staff.

The winner will be someone judged to have made an outstanding contribution to the development of the US property cat reinsurance sector over the last year and indeed during the course of their careers.

THE RANKING SERIES

The Insurance Insider Rankings are two-way surveys by which underwriters nominate and rate the best brokers, and brokers qualify the best underwriters. Dedicated reports are currently available across five lines of business including cyber, political risk, political violence, US property cat, and D&O.

Individuals are scored across a number of specifically-defined attributes and professional excellence is illustrated by insightful statements, making the Rankings a qualified view on each specific class of business from the market participants themselves.

With league tables of individuals and teams, scoring of attributes, testimonials and segmentation of results based on years of experience and premium, the product is a must-have for companies interested in researching and benchmarking talent.

The Rankings are also an unbeatable discovery tool for companies that want to assess how their teams – and their competitors’ teams – are being perceived in the market as well as a complement for due diligence processes on partnerships or transactions within the space.

Rankings results are delivered through a series of annual reports, and awards events.
