Additionally, they have also received excellent reviews from their employers and take on leadership roles in their extracurricular involvement. QualRisk and Maurice R. Greenberg School of Risk Management Board member Mike Pritula have committed scholarship awards of $1,500 for each of these
students to accompany the honour again this year.

Candidates will be insurance companies that provided an outstanding service to the global P&C market in the past year, standing strong for their clients in what has been a challenging period for underwriters.

Reinsurer of the Year

Entry criteria: This award recognizes the work of a single U.S-based reinsurer that excelled in 2020. Entrants will have demonstrated this excellence in a number of ways, including underwriting results, improved performance and business growth, with clear evidence of how the insurer achieved this success.

 

Candidates will be reinsurers that provided an outstanding service to the global P&C market in the past year, standing strong for their clients in what has been a challenging period for underwriters.

 

The winner will be a company that has demonstrated an ongoing commitment to the sector through consistent high-quality management and entrepreneurialism coupled with outstanding underwriting performance.

Specialty Insurer of the Year

Entry criteria: This award recognizes the work of a single U.S-based E&S insurer that excelled in 2020. Entrants will have demonstrated this excellence in a number of ways, including specialty-needs client service, solid underwriting results and improved performance/business growth, with clear evidence of how the insurer achieved this success. 

 

The winner will be a specialty insurer that has demonstrated an ongoing commitment to client service in crafting coverage and servicing claims, balanced with outstanding underwriting performance.

Specialty Reinsurer of the Year

Entry criteria: This award recognizes the work of a single U.S-based specialty reinsurer that excelled in 2020. Entrants will have demonstrated this excellence in a number of ways, including securing reinsurance coverage for specialty needs, solid underwriting results and improved performance/business growth, with clear evidence of how the reinsurer achieved this success. 

 

The winner will be a specialty reinsurer that has demonstrated a solid commitment to meeting clients’ reinsurance coverage needs and servicing claims, balanced with outstanding underwriting performance.

Bermuda Insurer of the Year

Entry criteria: This award recognizes the work of a single Bermuda-based insurer that writes business in the U.S., that excelled in 2020. Entrants will demonstrate this excellence in a number of ways, including excellence in client service, positive underwriting results and improved performance and business growth, with clear evidence of how the insurer achieved this success. 

 

The winner will be a Bermuda-based insurer that has demonstrated an ongoing commitment to the sector through consistent high-quality management and entrepreneurialism coupled with outstanding underwriting performance.

Bermuda Reinsurer of the Year

Entry criteria: This award recognizes the work of a single Bermuda-based reinsurer that writes business in the U.S., that excelled in 2020. Entrants will demonstrate this excellence in a number of ways, including excellence in client service, positive underwriting results and improved performance and business growth, with clear evidence of how the reinsurer achieved this success.

 

The winner will be a Bermuda-based reinsurer that has demonstrated an ongoing commitment to the sector through consistent high-quality management and entrepreneurialism coupled with outstanding underwriting performance.

Property Catastrophe Reinsurer 

Entry criteria: This award recognizes the work of a property catastrophe reinsurer that excelled in 2020. Entrants demonstrated this excellence in a number of ways, including a firm’s comparative catastrophe losses to other reinsurers, improvements in underwriting, diversified business growth, and catastrophe response, among other factors. 

 

The winner will be a catastrophe reinsurer that has demonstrated an ongoing commitment to the sector through consistent high-quality management and entrepreneurialism coupled with outstanding underwriting performance.

Casualty Reinsurer of the Year

Entry criteria: This award recognizes the work of a casualty reinsurer that excelled in 2020. Entrants demonstrated this excellence in a number of ways, including a firm’s comparative casualty losses to other reinsurers, improvements in underwriting, diversified business growth, and client service, among other factors. 

 

The winner will be a casualty reinsurer that has demonstrated an ongoing commitment to the sector through consistent high-quality management and entrepreneurialism coupled with outstanding underwriting performance.

MGA/MGU of the Year

Entry criteria: This award recognizes the work of a managing general agent or managing general underwriter that excelled in 2020. Entrants demonstrated this excellence in a number of ways, including proving its value/solidifying its reputation as a highly specialized partner in coverage placement and underwriting, diversified business growth and excellence in client service, among other factors. 

 

The winner will be a company or a team that has demonstrated excellent underwriting performance in the past year, coupled with an ability to bring profitable business opportunities to its carrier backers that they would not otherwise have seen.

Wholesale Broker of the Year

Entry criteria: This award recognizes a U.S.-based wholesale insurance broker that excelled in 2020. Entrants demonstrated excellence in several ways, including the breadth and depth of coverage solutions provided, financial results, client retention levels, business growth and proven ability to provide access to a variety of specialty insurance markets.

 

Demonstrable evidence of the wholesaler’s performance in helping clients insure a variety of hard-to-place risks will be looked upon favourably.

 

The winner will be a wholesale broker that has demonstrated an ongoing commitment to consistent high-quality management and entrepreneurialism coupled with outstanding financial performance and client service.

Retail Broker of the Year

Entry criteria: This award recognizes a retail insurance broker that excelled in 2020. Entrants demonstrated excellence in a number of ways, including financial results, the amount of business placed, the breadth and depth of coverage solutions provided, client retention levels, and overall growth, among other factors. 

 

The winner will be a retail broker that has demonstrated an ongoing commitment to consistent high-quality management and entrepreneurialism coupled with outstanding financial performance and client service.

Reinsurance Broker of the Year  

Entry criteria: This award recognizes the work of a reinsurance broker that excelled in 2020. Entrants may demonstrate this excellence in a number of ways, including financial results, client service, client-retention levels, an increase in business facilitated, and other factors. Service in meeting both treaty and facultative needs will be considered.

 

The winner will be a reinsurance broker that has demonstrated an ongoing commitment to consistent high-quality management and entrepreneurialism coupled with outstanding financial performance and client service.

 Third-Party Administrator (TPA) 

Entry criteria: This award recognizes the work of a third-party administrator that excelled in 2020. Entrants may demonstrate this excellence in a number of ways, including client service and satisfaction, financial results, business-retention levels and other factors.  

 

The winner will be a TPA that has demonstrated an ongoing commitment to consistent high-quality management and entrepreneurialism coupled with outstanding financial performance and client service.

Underwriting Team of the Year

Entry criteria: Open to all insurance or reinsurance underwriting teams serving the U.S. P&C market. The judges will be looking for a team that can demonstrate strong cohesion, great communication, and continued incremental business expansion and improvement in margins and profits in 2020. Judges will look to see how the team has embraced change in the pursuit of these goals as well as improvement in customer service and retention.

 

The judges will also be interested in evidence of progress in the delivery of these and the stated business goals.

Major Loss Response Award

Entry criteria: This award is open to the claims departments of risk carriers, brokers, loss adjusters and all organizations that have been involved in the reaction and response to major losses and claims events in 2020. These could be either a man-made loss that gives rise to a large and complex claim or series of claims, or a natural catastrophe that gives rise to a series of claims.

 

Judges will be looking for entries that demonstrate an ability to rise to the extraordinary challenge of such incidents, including the best deployment of the organization’s in-house resources as well as the ability to coordinate and organize third-party suppliers to the benefit of all parties.

InsurTech of the Year

Entry criteria: This prize seeks to honor would-be disruptors looking to apply technology to revolutionize the U.S. re/insurance Industry at any point in the risk distribution and/or risk management chain.

 

Judges will be particularly interested in the originality of thinking and scale of ambition shown by the entry and the potential value of its invention, product, process or service if applied to the U.S. re/insurance industry.

 

As well as ambition originality and innovation, judges will also be looking for tangible and effective measurement of success within the context of investment, proof of concept, initial revenue and business growth.

Analytics of the Year*

*by an insurance or reinsurance broker

 

Entry criteria: This award recognizes especially valuable/actionable data provided by an insurance or reinsurance broker to clients in 2020. Special projects may be entered, and firms that demonstrate they consistently provide analytics of particular proprietary value will also be considered.

Rating Agency of the Year

Entry criteria: This award recognizes a single rating agency that excelled in 2020. Entrants may demonstrate excellence in a number of ways, including the quality of its market intelligence; the ability to consistently provide fair and accurate assessments; and innovations to the ratings process, among other factors.

 

Demonstrable evidence of how the agency has provided dependable, original insight to the benefit of the industry will be looked upon favorably.

Catastrophe Modeling Firm of the Year

Entry criteria: This award recognizes the work of a catastrophe risk-modeling firm that excelled in 2020.  Entrants may demonstrate this excellence in a number of ways, including precision/accuracy of the models developed, client service levels, and/or successful innovations in the science of cat risk modelling.

 

Demonstrable evidence of a modeler’s response to a major catastrophe and its subsequent service to clients will be considered, with a focus on where the firm has gone above and beyond typical expectations to distinguish itself in this field.

Financial Advisory Firm of the Year

Entry criteria: This award recognizes the accomplishments of a financial advisory firm that excelled in 2020. Entrants may demonstrate excellence in a number of ways, including re/insurance client service levels (including targets reached), expertise in serving the needs of insurance and reinsurance companies, and growing and improving its standing in the insurance industry.

 

Demonstrable evidence of how a firm has aided a re/insurance company in achieving an enviable result during a particularly challenging financial year will be looked upon favorably.

Insurance Asset Management Firm 

Entry criteria: This award recognizes the work of an insurance asset management firm that performed especially well in 2020. Entrants may demonstrate this excellence in a number of ways, including the adoption and employment of new strategies, overall investment performance, client-service levels, and how the firm has grown and improved its standing in the re/insurance industry.

 

Demonstrable evidence of how a firm has significantly improved a client’s investment performance will be looked upon favorably.

 

M&A Transaction of the Year

Entry criteria: This award recognizes the merger or acquisition that the judges believe has had the most economic and strategic impact in the past 18 months, producing a value-adding proposition for both parties.

 

As well as the deal economics and rationale, judges will be looking at how cultural issues were dealt with and how well the deal was received by markets and investors – as well as how successfully its execution has progressed post-transaction. The honor is open to buyers and sellers of insurers, reinsurers and brokerages.

 

(Note that different entries relating to the same deal will be merged by the Honors judging team at its discretion).

ILS Innovation of the Year

Entry criteria: This award recognizes the most innovative, impactful ILS transaction completed in 2020. The resulting solution will display the ability of the re/insurance industry and investors to forge a product of unique value to re/insurers that accelerates the scale and scope of risk transfer.

Diversity & Inclusion Award              

Entry criteria: This award is open to insurers, reinsurers, brokers and other firms working in the U.S. P&C market, as well as the trade bodies, organizations and associations that serve them. The focus should be on programs, events and other activities designed to promote and further inclusion and diversity.

 

This category shall include, but is not limited to, activity improving the racial, LGBTQ+, gender, disability, age and socioeconomic diversity of the global re/insurance market carried out in the year to 1 October, 2020. Judges will be particularly interested in proof of the efficacy of the initiative(s), the wider positive impact across the marketplace as well as the level of innovation, creativity and originality of entries.

Diversity & Inclusion Champion

Entry criteria: To be awarded to an individual who has led efforts to cultivate a more diverse and inclusive organization in the year to 1 October, 2020. This person will have shown evidence of challenging either their own company or the U.S. market as a whole to possess a more diverse workforce and has gone above and beyond in spearheading such efforts. Evidence of how the individual has passionately supported such an initiative and helped deliver measurable progress will be looked upon favorably.

 

This award is open to insurers, reinsurers, brokers and other firms working in the U.S. P&C market, as well as the trade bodies, organizations and associations that serve them.

 

Broking Rising Star

Entry criteria: Candidates will be an individual, aged 35 or under on December 31, 2020, and working in the U.S. broking sector.

 

The winner will have already made a significant contribution to the industry, clearly demonstrating solid input into the future development of re/insurance distribution. Judges will be looking for evidence of excellence in client service, progress in insurance education, wider sector development and engagement with other industries as well as originality, a willingness to go the extra mile, flair, entrepreneurialism, and strong communication skills.

 

Candidates' entries must be supported by their department manager.

Underwriting Rising Star

Entry criteria: Candidates will be an individual, aged 35 or under on December 31, 2020, and working in the U.S. underwriting sector.

 

The winner will have already made a significant contribution to the industry, clearly demonstrating solid input into the future development of re/insurance underwriting. Judges will be looking for evidence of progress in insurance education, wider sector development and engagement with other industries as well as originality, a willingness to go the extra mile, flair, entrepreneurialism, and strong communication skills.

 

Candidates' entries must be supported by their department manager.
